Twinkle took over the red but I loved it anyway. :-)

Short summer, that is the last two weeks. And now mid 30's every night. I'm afraid to look out every morning.

can you forstall the inevitable a little bit by covering the plants...or is the first frost really the end of things?

I just let them go because we change to snow so quickly its easier to have the garden ready for a blanket if things have died away. Some come through an amazingly long time. I'm about to wrap the beds with plastic walls. I expect that'll slow things up. Once everything has really gone into slumber I fill the beds with straw. Then when the sun returns I can push spring a month earlier putting on plastic lids and forming each into little cold frames. Works great to have everything harden off with the last spring frost and all my seeds will have already sprouted..
