Delonix:
Interesting how those trees have grown tall.
Most of Delonix here are tall but also open like an umbrella.
(we call them Flamboyants - popular name)

Aleyna:

These trees get cut back every year because the San Diego Zoo bus tour street is just below these trees. I've never seen these trees bloom and they were planted in 1992. The horticulturist at the zoo aren't sure why they haven't bloomed either.

Delonix,
That sounds weird...I've seen flamboyants 2m tall already with flowers.
I know the flowers have a preference for sun spots.
Also, they are suppose to have flowers with 3 or 4 years after planting.
I'm afraid to ask... but... are you sure is a Delonix Regia?

Aleyna:

They are Delonix regia. I've spoken with the horticulturist at the San Diego Zoo and they don't know why these trees don't bloom. It was thought maybe they didn't get enough heat...however, I've seen some closer to San Diego Bay which receives less heat than these trees... and they bloom. It's a mystery.

I have a feeling these trees will surprise the horticulturist at the Zoo and bloom one day. Maybe this year?
