Thanks Jacque! I believe most of the varieties of dates that are grown commercially in the Southern California desert came from Egypt originally.

Very nice Phoenix dactylifera (date palms). Where are these trees grown? These palms are widely grown here in San Diego, Ca.
About 100 miles east of San Diego, Ca in the Coachella Valley (the desert) they are commercially grown for the dates. There's hundreds of thousands of these trees grown.
