Actaea simplex Atropurpurea Group 'James Compton' (Actaea simplex Atropurpurea Group)

A mouthful of a name! And it seems to switch between actaea and cimicifuga every five minutes. Grows happily in part shade in a humusy soil, reaching four feet or more. May need support unless in a sheltered position

At long last I've found the answer to the name of this plant!! I planted it in sept 2007 and promtly lost the lable - when it came thro' in 2008 and the perfume was just lovely - it drove me crazy trying to find the name - thank you Andrew. Bye the way can it be divided & if so when should I do it?
