I really gut my soil in the spring because it is so compact from the heavy snow and melting ..I rip up most stuff that has reseeded that is not fair sized and recognizable-it's a necessary evil... :(

Iv some very Pretty Yellow Pot Marigolds in my Garden 2 SK ,theres seedlings every where & their welcome :)
