Eucalyptus

Do you like the Eucalyptus?
They aren't one of my favourites.
I would be planting something different there. :o)

Actually I love the shape of it... ball on a stick! and the almost minty blue colour of the young leaves is great... sadly no flowers though. I have one at either end of the front border and am hoping to get them to the same size and shape... however one was planted a couple of years before the other so it could be impossible.

It's good to know that it's something you like.
Unless we have really huge gardens, it's not a good idea to keep shrubs that aren't our favourites!
You might eventually get the two lollipops to look similar.:o)

I think it looks very nice. The whole garden in the picture looks lovely, too.

The style of trimming your using is somewhat like bonsai, you should be able to get them very similar. You may want to search your specific variety, but eucalyptus seems to flower at the end of annual growth. Pruning should leave whole shoots to flower and eliminate other shoots. If the branches are generally trimmed to keep shape, the branch ends where the flowering would occur are being removed. Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

i would imagine the rootball will only get as large as is nessisary to suppot the top, nice job though.

I love it, along with the rest of your garden ! Your garden look so immaculate, and has a formal feel to it. I wish at times, that I could be so disciplined with my garden. I also love the rock walkway !

I'll have to get a photo of my Candlebark Gum on here - its now about fifteen - twenty feet tall and its bark is pure white - darkening with age before splitting and falling off to reveal new white bark beneath. The bark can be used as kindling or to use in a dish of oil to act as a wick (hence its name). The smell from the leaves, which are oval and look like Willow leaves with a bloom is refreshing depending on how hot it gets. I have a Peppermint gum in the Greenhouse and I think it won't be there for much longer as it grows quick - that one has a minty smell.
