Looks like a bolted radish to me. I don't mind when mine bolt cause the flowers are nice, and edible (don't eat it if you didn't plant radish, be safe). :-)

hi john , theres another photo of it on page two of photos on my homepage

After looking at your home page photos Irish my best guess is that it is one of the oak leaved pelargoniums. I may be very wrong, this is not really my speciality, I've got a few geraniums that come outdoors for summer colour, but not one of these delicate pretty ones, and that is about it. But there are dozens of them of this rough description. This is the best site I can find for you to have a look through and see if you can spot it. Do keep us informed.

Is there a geranium expert on GoY? They may be able to either shoot me down (I don't mind, only a suggestion) or cast more light on it.

i had a quick look at that website John inbetween working, so may on it .
so far im with you that its an oak leafed pelargonium.
im almost certain it was a seed from a pkt of wildflowers that it came from

Check out arugula. I thought it looked familiar and edible, I babysat a garden of overgrown arugula one summer and feasted on flowers. Thats my best guess from seeing the plant pics. :-) Pelargonium flowers look to have more a top and bottom petal.

i googled arugula greenthumb, it really does look like one alright

By George he's got it. I grow rocket in a container every year and let some bolt for seed but my variety has yellow flowers. I never knew that there was an ornamental variety which is just as good in your salad. And I was told I knew everything - LoL. Well done Greenthumb.

lol after all that John , the mystery has been solved

Amazing how forums and friendly discussion do tend to get there eventually. What was it Sherlock Holmes said? 'When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.'

Mind you I think that these Alaskans will eat anything. LOL.
