Well, at first we were very worried. We consumed all summer teaching her that she could fly down. She is fours years old and lived in the cage until last year when she changed owners. At first we did not trim her wings, so she was flying very high (30/40 feet) from tree to tree, without knowing the power of her wings; how to say she was flying lost and silly. Since I am not a bird and cannot teach her how to fly we decided to trim back her wings to safety. Now we place her on a tree and she climb it as high as she can; after several hours, perhaps all afternoon (as we make sure is above 18C) she comes down on her own.

first I've ever heard of training a bird like that to come back! I have trouble getting my youngest canine to come to me when she escapes, her sister is a littler wiser ;)...

Every time you caller, give her a cookie, or something she loves. I used to train horses this way. If your dog does not respond, you go to her with the treat. Soon she will run to you when you call her. I used to have dogs like that; they worry you sick. My bird is different, for now I never had to use treats; I just figure than when she is tired she will come down on her own. I worry about Hawks, very worry, that they will grab her for lunch. At the beginning we had to climb the tree to get her down; you know, just like the little kitten that goes all the way up than freeze, afraid to come down.

I always try positive reinforcement with my dogs.....problem is, they have become smart enough to sniff out when an actual reward is about to be given! :P
You must have some patience with that bird!
