thank you very much! I know the hostas aren't prominent in this pic, Gt...but they turn a lovely brilliant yellow...one of those unexpected colour bonuses...but the burning bush can be counted on for gorgeous reds everytime...lol. it seems that the bb is counted as an invasive species in the lower 49..?

I see the hosta there now you mention. It is a bright yellow. How does the bush spread I wonder, with the cooler temps slowing it's spread so much.

The Latin is Euonymus alatus...it is upright and woody...there is another plant which is also called burning bush..Kokia (sp?) which is an annual...
The E.alatus shrub spreads by seeds...pretty persimmon red things about the size of your little fingernail. but it seems it will thrive from cuttings very readily. It is the autumn colour that makes it a desirable addition... when we plan our gardens we don't always give thought to the plant's appearance when seasons change...with the frost (albeit for a very short time) the garden comes alive with bright colours again... the bb, the hosta, and the Virginia Creeper are good examples... I wonder if you could grow the E.(bb) in Alaska?

My azalea test will raise my confidence alot. I'm a little slow adding shrubs to this rental, but the enjoyment is worth it sometimes. :-)

I have my fingers crossed for your azalea, Gt! you've done such a job of packing it that I'm sure you've done the very best you could and now it's in the hands of mother nature!!
