This is was a small plant in the base of a pot at the botanical garden. It appears to be a baby carrion succulent plant.

Nice photo, Gardebgem. I just photographed the same plant at the conservatory of flowers in San Francisco.

That's cool How large was it? I understand these can get several feet across for the larger ones. This one was only a couple inches. I stopped to look at at a plant and this was growing at the base of the pot. I almost walked right past it...:)

It may have been a foot across from tip to tip. It looked like a large star fish. I have it posted on my plot page 4.

That's cool, it is a little bit of a different pattern, but same type of plant. :)

Stapelia! Many small of rotting flesh when they flower, hence the carrion name. Meant to attract flies to fertilise!

Is it a canivorous plant?

No, not heard of any of the varieties being carnivorous anyway.
