Sprouting garlic

Shoots from the garlic I planted at the end of last autumn.

I have a pot of cloves just sprouting in my kitchen; I use the greens for seasoning like chives. How do you garden these? Does each form a new bulb by fall that you harvest?

This is my first year growing them, Gramazoo. I bought 3 bulbs in autumn that gave enough cloves for everything in the picture. I'll keep three or four of the bulbs from this year's crop to plant again in autumn.
Apparently planting garlic bought from the supermarket isn't recommended so I bought them from the garden centre. All I did was put them in the ground and left them for a few months.
