Hi maxine, Welcome to GOY, and you are defo in the right place to learn all about gardening! lol it does'nt matter how much or how little you know, there are so many gardeners of all different levels and abilities on here, and we are a friendly bunch that are willing to help and we all learn together, the important thing is to enjoy your garden, and make a few friends along the way. And going back to this smoke bush, to be honest this one is suposed to have orange and pink for autumn colours so not sure if it ok, but a lot of trees and shrubs turn this colour before they loose all there leaves this time of year which is all quite normal. so i am sure yours are fine.

Angie - Cotinus 'Golden Spirit', I think this one is a bit unreliable for autumn colour

something else i have discovered is that it prefers Acid soil, which would make sense as in the pot it is in multi purpose, but my garden soil is a little on the acid side, which would kind of make sense as i know with Pieris the colouring is not so bright during spring if it does'nt have acid soil. so i will get it into the ground ASAP and hopefully it will do better next year!
