Interesting and unusual specie clematis. Flowers in early spring (even earlier this year) followed by fluffy seedheads. Winter evergreen but goes into dormancy in late summer, starting into growth again in late autumn. Quite large (about 5 metres) so probably best growing through a large shrub

Beautiful clematis Andrew especially at that time of year when all's quiet.

Hello Andrewr, This is fantastically beautiful clematis species, changing features of blooms. I grow four clematis of cirrohosa group, Hie, cirrohosa var purpurascens 'Jingle Bell', cirrohosa var. purpurascens 'Freckle' and Calysina. I want to add this as one of cirrohosa group.

I love the photo. Several years ago I was given some seed and actually managed to successfully produce about 5 plants 3 of which I gave to friends and the other two I kept. However, I have never achieved the ultimate reward, flowers!
I now find that I have to move one of the plants, do you think it will survive the transfer and if so does anyone have any hints or tips about how to do it?

This is lovely! I have to admit that I am somewhat envious that your gardens in the UK are coming alive while here in Canada we are going through freezing temperatures, snow, thaws and back again. Well I can enjoy a preview of what is to come, thanks to this site. And if nothing else, we gardeners have learned patience!
