This vine is commonly sold here in Coastal California...it is called Clitoria ternatea - Butterfly Pea. It is a very quick growing vine...and grows rather large in just a few years. I have seen this vine take over cyclone fences along some of our frontage roads for many miles. They have beautiful flowers and bloom most of the year.

Thanks Delonix1, that was interesting. I looked it up on Wikipedia and it explains that its root is regarded a laxative and can be used to cure whooping cough , a leguminous plant too. Wow I'm learning :-)
