I'm almost positive this is a dwarf form of Heliconia. My dwarf heliconia looks very similar...however, most dwarf Heliconia look very much a like.
Heliconia does resemble ginger because they are in the same "order", Zingiberales...which includes such families as: Heliconiaceae (Heliconia), Streliziaceae (Bird of Paradise), and Musaceae (Banana) and Zingiberaceae (Ginger) to name a few.
