Tapa Cloth

Tapa Cloth

Tapa is a bark cloth made in the islands of the Pacific Ocean, primarily Tonga and Samoa. It was introduced to Fiji by the Tongans as our history says. It is used for traditional functions, weddings, funerals to name a few. These days more modern wedding gowns are made from the white tapa and embroided with shells. Tapa is made out of the bark of the Mulberry Tree.

Noseypotter, if well kept it doesn't rot easily, it can get wet and be put out in the sun again to dry and sometimes lathered lightly again with coconut oil for durability and sheen. Yes indeed its amazing what we can do with nature. It's more like paper but a much thicker version to it. I like the idea of a boat of flowers mounted on a black background, very clever of you:-)
