Statue of Sir Galahad-by Ernest W. Keyser, Commissioned by W.L.MacKenzie-King

This statue commemorates a young Canadian, Henry Albert Harper, who lost his life while attempting to save the daughter of the then Governor General of Canada, A.G.Blair, Earl of Minto. Bessie Blair fell through the ice at a skating party on the Ottawa River, December 6, 1901. Henry Harper attempted her rescue and was also drowned. It is the only statue on Parliament Hill that commemorates neither a politician nor monarch.

I remember seeing this statue years ago and wondering why we had a statue of Sir Galahad on our parliament hill..?? lol. found the answer in The Citizen...last year... great story about H.A.Harper. The skating rink on the canal was for many years the longest/largest outdoor skating facility in the world...but I think it was eclipsed recently by some place in China...(What else is new?)
