These blooms have now shriveled and have been cut off, but more ready to come...I have a second plant as well that is nowhere next to blooming.

We have some that are 10 years old! We even moved them 1700 kms when we moved to Nova Scotia from Montreal. We put them outside in their pots in the summer, and then bring them in around September, de-pot them and store the bulbs in a paper bag in the basement. No light, ambient temperature. Then we bring them out just before Christmas and repot them, breaking off any 'baby' ones, and potting them separately. The baby ones take about 3 years to bloom. Now the old ones are coming into bloom again - see my photos. Give it a try this year.

10 yrs - that's a long time. I've been able to keep them for 5 or 6 yrs but then they die off.
