Ams, its all relative. If you aren't used to it, -5 could feel just as uncomfortable as -40. Besides, when the air is dry the cold is much easier to handle than if the air is wet. I'd much rather have the -20C we have here in Kamloops than the -2C they have down in Vancouver. Our cold is a dry cold and theirs is a wet cold. The wet cold goes right through your bones. I would imagine the cold you have would be quite a wet cold too.

You are right of course about dry cold, I have been winter skiing in the Dolomites and found myself baking on the piste (no that is not posh for drunk but that came later) ;-)
