Lovely photo. Is there still a wherry in this area? I've not been there for so long.

What's a wherry Magtree?
Goodness Amy..........it's a most unusual coastline with all the creeks and inlets and yet the sea seems quite far away.

They are a large, shallow, trading barge once used particularly on the Norfolk Broads. The Albion was a famous one. A Wherry Trust has been set up. If you "google" Norfolk Wherry I'm sure it could explain it better than me. I remember seeing the Albion when it was restored. It was quite an emotional experience seeing this elegant old lady sailing on the Broad.

I'll have a look Magtree...we enjoyed a holiday on the Broads in the early70's....bet it's changed a bit now though! I remember there were little
boats with red/brown sails that seemed to be local working boats.....not tourist ones. Our boat was lovely with a lot of varnished wood and french doors at the rear. It's name was Sandpiper...and it's sister boat....Sandplover.

My Hubby tells me that there are about 3 Wherrys left on the broads and as you rightly say Shirley the Albion being the most famous he can,t remember the names of the others .
My daughter once won a holiday on the Broads which was quite funny really because at the time she was the manager of the holiday company Going Places and was travelling to places all over the world , A group of her friends met up at the weekend on the broads .
and ran up the Jolly Roger pirate flag , they were ordered to take it down as it is still an offence to fly one or be fined £ 2000.00 ........
