Hawk

Maybe a red-shouldered hawk or a grey hawk. I saw this on my drive to visit my brother today (Happy bday Marcus!!). It was on the other side of the road, so I pulled a U-ie. I set up my tripod and that took too long. I wanted to get a really nice photo of this beautiful creature. He was watching me as soon as I parked. I managed to snap off 2 shots. Even though I was pretty far away he took off and landed on the wire further down the road, so I followed and when I got close enough for a desent shot he flew across the road, behind some trees in a watery area!! So much for my beautiful shot, but it was cool to see it anyway.

It's a good shot T, but hawks are so variable in plumage that it is difficult to get a positive ID sometimes. If he is hanging around water it could very well be a red shouldered.

Glad that you goys like the photo :) It was very large.
Donna- I've seen one trying to get at the neighbors cockatiels, that he keeps outside. Poor things. The hawk eventually gave up and left, but what a fright for those birds!
Wohlibuli- I tried to identify it using my book, but like you said it's difficult!
