~I have bought some half price Lori but not the bargain you had~I have four growing now two of which are the dark velvety maroon which is gorgeous!

ooooo Arlene! ... now that's a lovely colour... I'm curious about the picotee...it is a soft creamy white with a think line of dark maroon around the edges of the petals! amazing looking...can't wait til it blooms!!

Good luck with them Lori :-) I got one for Xmas. It's in the sitting room and the stalk is growing up with a big fat bud on the top. My mother keeps saying it looks rude.....Oh Really >:-S (that's meant to be a Very Disapproving Look!!)

LoL... I'm enjoying mine so much so don't you let anyone put you off enjoying yours! I checked mine this a.m. and there are two shoots coming out of the one bulb and the others look fat enough that they could be the same.... Have you seen all the blossom stalks on Mikec's amaryllus? have to do some research on keeping the bulbs... nice to find such a terrific performer who's not demanding.

Been easly so far Lori.....can't wait to see what the flowers will look like! The box said white, but the bud looks pinkish........

Looking good Lori... Keeping the bulbs for next year Lori is very simple. After the finish blooming just cut off the flower stalks at the base but leave the leaves. Start feeding them once a month and when the weather warms up put them in your shade house for the summer and continue feeding them.
Eventually the leaves will turn yellow and at the end of the summer cut the leaves off and bring the pots in the house or your basement and let them completely dry out. Around mid November you can bring the pots back to a sunny window and start watering again which will restart the cycle.

Oo - yes, thanks Mike! I don't know what a shadehouse is.....can I just put mine in the shade under the shelf in the greenhouse instead?

That should do fine, Sid. Check out Mikec's pics for a look at his shade house...great for summering epiphyllums and night blooming cereus cacti...On a suggestion from Mike, I made a shade porch for my shed last year...I put my epi's, orchids, schlumbergera, and boston fern out in it all summer and they did very well!!
