Nice hen and chicks succulents :)

I like Sempervivums. In my previous garden They grew on all the walls.

Although these will take the cold of our British winters, they do not like the wet that comes with it (it makes them rot). I put a sheet of glass supported by bricks over mine in October and remove it in March - this seems to work well

The ones I had grew in cracks on stone walls so I think the drainage stopped them from geting too wet.

I think the problem is when the wet lodges in the crowns and then freezes. If they were growing in a wall, the rain would have run off the crowns and avoided the problem. Mine are planted on the flat in a bed of grit and gravel

Hywel- I love the idea of them growing on walls... a living wall :)
