looks like you were up early feeding the birds, they will need it today...................

2 Feb, 2009

aye , the blackbird and robin were the first down this morn looking for food.

2 Feb, 2009

We had none until about 6.30am. There's a light covering now.

Snowing steadily now. Has anyone heard the expression "Big snow, little snow. Little snow big snow". Or is it just peculiar to Norfolk? Going on this we should have "big snow" because the flakes are tiny.

2 Feb, 2009

havent heard that expression before magnoliatree

That's new to me, Magnolia tree...but it's true.... and the big snow is usually wet and heavy...the little snow is finer, and drier...(that's the stuff we have big drifts of, right now!) I keep remembering that lovely pic of the fish in your pond, Irish....what must they be thinking now??

confused i would imagine Lori, one day they are swimming around with the sun shining and next day they are getting snowed on

There's a saying here :- " Big snow- little snow. Little snow - big snow "
It means that if the snow flakes are big and floppy there won't be much covering, but if they are small then you'll have several inches. That's what we had yesterday.

Oh. lol I've just read Magnoliatree's comment. :o)

hi Hywel, you wouldnt like over here this morning lol.
we had 5 feet of snow in the Wicklow mountains last night, Wicklow is about an hr from here. several motorist were stuck up there over night

4 Feb, 2009

That sounds terrible Eileen. I'm a day late seeing this. lol
We have 5 inches. That's too much for me. lol.
Is there a lot in Dublin ?
It's still snowing here now but some melted yesterday.
I can't get my car down to the main road but it is clear there. I would think the highest routs are affected badly. the Welsh news showed parts of mid Wales where there were lots of lorries stuck and they're afraid they'll run out of grit.

5 Feb, 2009

seems to be bad almost everywhere Hywel, ours is melting away now and the snow that is still falling is not sticking. just watched the Northern Ireland news, they got 10 inches of snow this morn

5 Feb, 2009

Not all of wales is as bad. 10 inches - that's a lot.! I measured it yesterday and it was just under 4 inches on my patio. It's still coming down but not sticking here either. The forecast is for it to turn to rain but staying cold until next week. ( ie Welsh forecast - I don't listen much to the "British" forecast - they just skim over wales and don't say hardly anything. often they miss it out completely ). Sorry I find the snow so depressing Eileen lol.

lol thats ok Hywel.
Dublin airport is now closed, they recon they will be able to re open it at 6pm, hope they manage to keep it open as ciara is flying home at 9am tomorrow morning

5 Feb, 2009

I hope so too. Has she been somewhere nice and warm. She'll see a big diference. Cardiff airport has minor interuptions but nothing serious. They've had more snow in that area than here. but I think it's dying out now.

5 Feb, 2009

shes been in Edinburgh for the week Hywel

5 Feb, 2009

Oh I thought she might have been somewhere warm. I don't think Scotland has had so much snow. Anyway I hope we don't get anymore now.
