Thanks folks! Yes she is well at home in the snow...we've been trying a new command for her to learn before entering the house and that's: SHAKE!! Otherwise, it's just as you say, Arlene, I keep her towels by the door...and she gets a wipe down...The snow was coming down like a white curtain, big flakes~ she looked so pretty just sitting there enjoying it all! TT: no problem ...

Lori My Summer Knows the Command SHAKE :) I taught it for when she has her baths :) Shes brill i learnt it by Shaking Myself " Head,Arms,Torso "lol :) She learnt so quickly :)

LOL! great..there's hope for her yet, then Jacque! She came in once laden with snow and stood in the middle of the Livingroom and Shook! YIKES! Don't doooo that! I've tried the pantomime a couple of times...sometimes she gets it and sometimes she wants a massage!

I think she has some shepherd in her, Dylan. ...I think her father was a purebred GS...but her mother was a feral dog...I think Mandy may have some wolf in her too... She has a really dense coat, like a Samoyed, it has three layers... she is quite at home outdoors in our coldest winter weather...and suffers indoors (central heating), In the hot humid summers she really suffers...she spends most of her time in the basement where it's cool. because of her heavy coat we were advised not to shave her in the summer...but as she gets older it's harder to keep her "fleece" clear of mats...so this summer (she is 11)...we will try clipping her.

Thanks Paul...dogs of her breed sleep in snowbanks! The snow will drift right over them as they sleep...when they waken they break out of their snow cocoon...I've seen pics of this and actually seen northern dogs doing just that...it seems, to us, an unreasonably harsh condition, but to them it is natural.

Amazing! It's incredible how nature produces different breeds for different conditions. I don't think our terrier Paddy would like it there. He doesn't like the cold, white stuff much!

Thanks Donnah! Paulthegard, your Paddy's ancestors probably evolved by eating the same thing that my Mandy's wolf ancestors ate...mice, voles and rats! You know the stereo type of the big bad wolf...ain't so!

No I don't think she would Lori - unless you gave a radical "short back and sides" !!!

She is so skitzzy...she won't stand still for a brushing much less a shave!! I need a muzzle and an army every time I groom her. ~that's an exaggeration you understand~ She is usually gentle and sweet but when she sees the brush, or even hears the word, she runs and hides! and to add insult to injury she SHEDS! Good thing I love her so much!

Poor lovely Mandy - she reminds me of my sister when she was little - she'd run a mile when mum tried to brush or comb her thick hair!!

Hmmmm.... sounds familiar...I sympathize with your sister, that was my lot too! My older sister was so tired of having to catch me and hearing me cry through the whole ordeal that she gave me a bowl cut! (I looked hideous!) My hair was long and a relaxed natural curl...after that haircut the curl was gone but it was still thick as a mop!
