This is my incredibly beautiful flowering purple firespike shrub. It isn't as common as Odontonema strictum - Red Firespike. Photo taken Feb. 25, 2009

Yes it's lovely - have never seen the purple variety. The red is common here too but not as nice as this.

That's right the red we have here as well and I haven't seen this colour either before, lovely, can you send us some some cuttings please..lol

It is a very beautiful flowering shrub that grows to 15 feet/ 4.6 meters tall. It can bloom almost any time of the year or all year. Unfortunately, if you don't have this plant you can't really know what these flowers really look like...the camera cannot capture it's true almost neon color...at different times of the day the flowers can look hot pink, lavender and bright purple. What an incredible combination of colors!
For you all that live in the tropics, I'm very surprised it's not available. I purchased the original plant about 15 years ago when it wasn't a very common landscape plant. Now, it's available at many nurseries...and is extremely easy to grow from cuttings.
This plant is native to tropical Southern Mexico through Central America.
