Comments on this photo
Don't worry Wohlibuli, she's just showing off. I only sowed my sweet peas earlier today.

Looking good can we do some swaps??

Toto....These are for eating....These are early crop EATING peas...ha ha ha They will go out now into the cold frame for wa week and then in the veg patch..........Not very interesting flowers on this lot Donnah

I always get it wrong, but never mind. I used to have two allotments at Canewdon and sowed my peas direct into the ground by forming a shallow trench with a draw hoe and setting the seeds three across.

Yeh well Ive tried that here Toto and the mice nic 'em before they even get out of the ground. This way is safer ...........Do you know in my life before Sleeping Partner, back in the late 60s, we used to do our courting down at Canewdon...........small world

It's not much changed since then except for a small housing estate that was built back in the early seventies. The Anchor and the Chequers is still there along with the church and people still reckon there are a few witches about but I know different cause she doesn't go out on her broomstick much anymore.

The Anchor I think is where we used to go ...is that the one on the river?
4 Mar, 2009
No the Anchor is right on the bend in the centre of Canewdon. The one on the river is a bit further on and was called the Ferry Boat Inn until it burnt down. There were a lot of odd things going on in the Ferry Boat and all manner of people frequenting it.
4 Mar, 2009
oh that ws it the Ferry Boat I remember now....what do you mean odd!!!! It was the 60's ...you know Mods Rockers and heaven forbid Hippies....It was brilliant down there..............I think ha ha ha

I remember but it wasn't until the eighties that it seemed to change and the rumour was that some very nasty and dodgy people got involved. The police thought so too.
4 Mar, 2009
What a shame...it was such a lovely peaceful little place....What is this world coming too.............
4 Mar, 2009
No idea but I'm afraid it's gone to rack and ruin. Best keep away from it and stay with the garden and nature.
4 Mar, 2009
I will take your advice and stick to the fond memories..............ahhhhh

Never go back Milky , you always feel let down when things are not the same . :o)

I know these are Jacque's pots, but how did you make them Maureen? Does Jacque have a blog on how to make them? I missed that lesson. Do you think that preschoolers could make them? I want to do some planting with the children at school and these pots could be a project in its self.
4 Mar, 2009
Oh Yes Tasteyg, they are simple........If you want it in pictures then Jacque blog I think was about 22nd of January........The kids will love, Chloe certainly did helping me...........
5 Mar, 2009
Decided last night I would try these newspaper pots, so I printed out Jacque's blog and got out a stack of old newspapers and a can of tomato paste and proceeded to make 25 little pots.
Once I got the hang of it, it was a snap!
Your using them reminded me of them so a couple more evenings of making and I will be well stocked and ready to get planting!
5 Mar, 2009
Go for it Wohlibuli...........We know how to recycle on GoY........I think Tasteyg is going to as well for he little friends at playgroup............
5 Mar, 2009
They are fabulous Wohlibuli......I've got a bunch of my seeds in Jacque pots too. Some are big enough that I might have to transplant in to bigger ones.....I wonder how they are if you make them with a 28 oz can instead of a can of tomato paste???
Maureen your greenhouse is looking very well stocked. Well done. I shoved a bunch of nodding onion seeds and rose seeds out in mine that weren't doing anything inside.....maybe time out in the freeze/thaw cycle will spur them on.
5 Mar, 2009
Anything is worth a try Gilli......I have started 5 different types of tomatoes and not 1 seed seems to be germinating..............Toto was saying he had the same problem............
5 Mar, 2009
And I still have.
7 Mar, 2009
Toto I have now got the mearest beginning of germination.starting in the Toms..........but nothing with the Italian ones..........
7 Mar, 2009
Well at least one of us got something moving. Well done.
7 Mar, 2009
Just cant understand why they are taking so long this year Toto, but I think I will buy fresh seed for next year even though this lot is still in date.....
7 Mar, 2009
At this rate, I'll need to by some fresh seed for this year. I only bought the packet I used the day before I sowed them.
8 Mar, 2009
Maybe its going to be a funny year for growing Tomatoes in Essex Toto...........

When will you be able to put them all out? Yours are much farther along then my stuff, I won't be able to put anything out until mid-late april.
I'm beginning to realize you all must have a much longer season of cool but not too cold whereas here we have cold temps right up till april and then suddenly its warm to hot.
