This fellow took a bath in the dirt (rolled around in the dirt) and then flew up onto a branch to shake himself clean.

That poor bird - I don't know how anyone could do that to such a beautiful wild creature. I wonder how on earth it ended up over there.

no idea Bernieh, i would imagine you would need a licence to breed birds like that over here

My dog loves to roll in the dusty dirt right after I bathe her. Dog's way of powdering herself ... I guess :)

Marguerite I had no idea that they have different sounds in the different states. Here we hear the kookaburra song every morning and most evenings, and sometimes during the day. This particular fellow is one of the juveniles in the family and he makes a lot of noise.

What a cute bird! I like the brown patches over his eyes and the fluffy cream feathers on his head...

Yep I totally agree Delonix - our birds are fantastic. I live in one tiny spot in our country and get to see so many beautiful birds - I also get to listen to their birdsong all day when I'm at home because I live out of the city and don't have a lot of man-created noise around. Actually I'm listening to the kookaburras right now - love their song.

We used to have a lot more birds in our neighborhood...however, my neighbors cut down their 10 - 130 foot/ 40 meter tall Eucalyptus trees.
Now there's not as many birds around...and my house is almost 10 degrees hotter all year now. (they had a good reason for cutting the trees down though - a big liability of falling on houses and telephone wires and causing fires)
