Do they really take two or three years to flower, as i see mature plants cost an arm and leg,
10 Mar, 2009
They do Funky You can buy them mature enough to flower, but it would cost you about £100., as well as waiting the 3/4 years, you still have to wait another 2/3 years before the flower actually come to its true colour. Hence the reverential treatment. Once ypou get them going, they are pretty easy to raise. Catus compost, lots of sun, no less than 9/10 degrees winter time very little water...........and eventually...flowers to die for............

Oh, they are coming along Milky. Well done. One sure does look different. I hope they will be different colours.
Mine are coming along...all at different rates now. I have one working on leaf #5, one working on leaf #6 and one working on leaf #8. Right now I've got them next to the TV. Its gets quite warm there to say nothing of the extra light from the screen. They seem to like it and it gives them something to do watching the shows. :o)

Hi Milky thought I'd ask you because you seem to like growing unusual plants that need TLC! I have treated myself to a tibouchina urvilleana having seen one in the glasshouse at Heligan (see my photos) and fell in love with it. I just wondered if you had come across this and how to care for it in this country? Being in the South West we usually get good summers and my patio is a sheltered hot spot so hoping it will be ok out there later on in the year. I only have a small plastic greenhouse and no conservatory but my kitchen diner is warm and very light and sunny so I have it in there at the moment. All the pictures of them on GOY are abroad and growing outside!

Oh Jo, yes I do know of it. Its a beautiful plant. I am hoping to go to Heligan myself this year when we come down for Rays fishing week in June. It certainly sound like you have got the perfect spot for it but it would have to be the kitchen diner for winer as it wont survive in a plastic greenhouse Im afraid, and sometimes it does need a little shade from constant blazing sun....if we are that lucky this year. Good luck with it Jo.....

Thanks for that Milky - will hopefully put it in Dad's sunny conservatory next winter if I don't kill it off! Can't let it out of my sight at the moment. Will remember what you say about scorching sun if we are that lucky! I also think it's a plant which likes plenty of water in summer and not much in Winter dormancy? It's called a Glory Bush isn't it?

P.S. Hope to go to Heligan again myself in early Summer as it was Autumn last time I visited - you will love it!
