This is a 'juno' iris that comes from Iran. Although junos are generally difficult to grow this is one of the easier species.

Lovely. I've got an Iris picture I cross stitched several years ago.

I had a yellow Juno in my old garden in Dundee and it seemed to do fine. Some of the things they say are tender turn out tough and some things that are supposed to be tough turn out to be wimps! I love this one. Do you have iris unguicularis (sorry if that's spelleed wrong!), I'm trying to get some for my new shady raised planters!

Hi Karen, the yellow Iris bucharica is the 'easy' one I refer to above, yet I grow that in a pot in the greenhouse with no problem.
I used to have Iris unguicularis ( I just checked the spelling) until it grew too bulky. I divided it and lost the lot ;-(. Are you sure that is the right plant for a shade garden? I thought that it prefered full sun and dry conditions.

Thanks MrB! I am obviously getting confused! I am trying to find things for shady places that will bloom in winter time and I saw some of these iris at Cambo House if Fife and thought they were lovely. Now you mention it though, they were against the house wall!
