This was my potted tree begonia before the gorging guinea pig got loose.

This potted tree begonia sits atop a metre high tree stump - obviously no problem for an athletic guinea pig. See next photo.

Hi Tasteyg this is also called an angel-wing here but is more often referred to as the tree or cane begonia because it can be confused with the dragon wing. (wow that was confusing!) Anyhoo, tree begonias/angelwings/cane begonias over here are the ones that grow very tall (over 1 metre) and have the spotted leaves.

Your plants and flowers are so amazing. You have such a different environment than cold rainy Bolton. My garden is so tiny compared to yours. Bit of a naughty guinea pig you have there!

Thanks 4ddreamscape - my garden has been established for quite some time and it is part of a big property (well not by Aussie standards) and the environment here can be quite harsh. Ever since we moved to this spot we have gone from the extremes of a ten-year drought and water restrictions to the extreme of the highest recorded wet season ever for this region. Our gardens are full of tough survivors.

Sorry to hear about your guinea pig problems. I've got a begonia very similar to this Bernieh. I was told mine was called an angel-wing begonia, for the shape of the leaf I guess.
