Well there I go again...I said they were red caps!! hahaha...I meant Redpolls... they are a sweet little bird and yes, I think they were warming their feet nestling into the seeds while they snacked...there was finer millet seed in the mixture but the huge Evening Grosbeaks just scattered it while they fought over the sunflower seed!! These little ones...ate the millet. soooo tiny.

I love redpolls. Mine ignored the millet, I thought. Maybe I should add it back into the mix.

If you had some hulled sunflower seed in the mixture I'm not surprised that the redpolls (and most other small birds for that matter) ignored the millet...Perhaps it was also a case of never having seen millet before!

I have foudn the hulled sunflower as a sure win. :-)

Yes, imagine what they were thinking..."this diner is terrific...food is first rate andthe service is excellent...we must come here more often!" not hard to spoil them... I just think they have a tough enough time surviving so why not save them some energy by giving them the hulled seed.
