I got you with this one did I? its a Salix, the varety is 'Flamingo' it's a lovely one, it's about 4-5ft tall now. it is grafted onto the stems so i don't think it will get much bigger. i bought this last year from QD stores for £7.50 - bargain! ;-)

Never heard of QD stores, but the tree is lovely - bet it's for acid soil! Maybe not if it's a Salix....

I don't think its fussy Spritz, It is very simular to S. Hakuro Nishiki, you must have herd of them, - i have one of them too - a bush variety but i have never known it to have the catkins, but the leaf colouring, red stems and habit are more or less identical. there is a possibitly it is the same plant, just with a different name, and for some reason the bush i have, just has'nt had the catkins as yet? maybe male/female - not sure on that. QD is the bargain shop i go to in Romford, it may well be a one off, but they do some great garden stuff, some of the variety of plants they do are quite unusaul. Woolworths used to be right next door, so i used to have a field day, lol

Yes, I know the other Salix - I covet one, but it wouldn't look right in my style of garden. I have seen it so many times, even yesterday when I replaced my Acer palmatum (Frost casualty) with an A. palmatum 'Bloodgood'. I still like it! is the 'Flamingo' a standard shrub too?

Are you sure spritz? i could just imagine one in your new white bed, yes this is a standard but my Hakuro nishiki is a bush - i have them planted in my left hand bed together, the effect is lovely - i don't prune them too tightly - lolly pops and neatly clipped balls don't suit my garden either, i like the natural cottage look and these do fit in quite nicely. if you get chance have a look at my pictures of the left hand bed during oct last year, think you can see the effect quite well in these...infact will just go and check that as can't remeber when i revamped this bed....
