Found this one on the verandah when I came home from work. He quickly scuttled into a nearby cupboard and wouldn't come out for quite some time. Had to wait inside to get a photo - taken through the window - because he got frightened easily.

Irish I have no idea what he is - either he's lost his tail or he is a stumpy-tailed something-or-other!! He has now hung around for two days in that cupboard on the verandah and I'm not really interested in getting any closer.

Wonder if he'll grow another tail? But double ugh to this one. I'm definitely not cut out to live near the bush, Bernieh. =0

looks like a skink ... maybe it needs to hide in the cupboard until the tail gets regenerated ...

Thanks Marguerite, I had heard some lizards could.

I've just Googled 'Skink' and it sounds like a Round Island Skink, They do regenerate lost tails. When they move through long grass they keep their legs close to their bodies and move like a snake.
