Now why is this beautiful plant nowhere to be found in my RHS books? Is it tender? More information please!

This is a woodland plant and needs a good, moist, open soil in shade. Flowers from late Feburary till early April. I'm growing it under a small apple tree in soil improved with added peat and garden compost. Seemed happy enough in last year's damp summer but may need additional watering if we get another summer like 2006. I bought it from Crug Farm, a small specialist nursery in north Wales who have just started doing mail order

I shall check them out, Andrew! Does it need acid soil by any horrible chance?

Not acid, just woodland. Check Plant Finder on the RHS website - there are suppliers in the southwest (not that I'm suggesting you buy one of course!)

Thankyou Andrew...very helpful as usual. I'm going to buy one if I can find it over here.
