No, these are large shrubby-type desert plants...The common name is Ocotillo - Fouquieria splendens. Crown-of-thorns - Euphorbia milii is a different plant and doesn't grow as large. I have posted several Crown-of-thorn plants in the past.

i thought it was the crown too Lori...its a well weird one....love the flowers against such an arid stem...
