looks like salsify? flowers usually yellow though.

I'm not sure what the name of this desert flower is. It kind of reminded me of a small Chrysanthemum.

It was the shape of the flower bud as well as the flower that made me think of salsify..when the flower opens the bud becomes brachts. Did you see any that had gone to seed? The seed head is like a dandelion, the seeds spread by the wind on fuzzy parachutes!... Wiki has mention of alloploid hybrids formed here in NA given the names Tragopogon mirus or miscellus...maybe that would account for the white flowers...?
