Then I'm sold...any flower with scent will catch my interest every time...lol. I happen to have a copy of David Austin's book Old Roses and English Roses... he is all praise for this rose...says it was developed by the Empress Josephine's plant breeder. Mr. Hardy who named it for his wife! Says it is classic old damask/centifolia bred in 1832...WOW!

In 'Who Does Your Garden Grow' Alex Pankhurst reports that Madame Hardy has been described as 'the most beautiful white rose in existence' In 1885, in France, there were over six thousand varieties of rose available, Madame Hardy was recommended as one of the best 26 varieties.
