These cone are very tight, opened usually by squirrels or such. The fire opened them all, throwing seeds everywhere in its wake. Ah, Nature. If you look closely you can see all the others in the treetops behind.

Thank you! As I left the trail, right at the end a whole tree top was broken off just laying next to the path. So I hauled one home. They were so beautiful.
