they are bulb type things, funny looking, woodland plant, be careful where you buy from though, they don't like movement, need to be planted when dormant and they won't come up at all if they have dried out - they need to be planted very quickly after they have been lifted. as i remember i got these from a specialist grower that i found on line, but it has taken about 18 months for them to get going.....not the easiest of spring bulbs to try ....but well worth the wait and extra effort.
