When our weather finally warms up I'm going to pot it up and put it outdoors...likes part shade, right?

I'm going to be very careful with this one, GT... it won't become acclimatized ...so I shall have to keep it indoors in winter...may have to call upon your expertise at plant lighting...?

Yes Lori....dappled shade and doesnt like the direct midday sun......It was in that little pot right through our really bad weather and took a couple of nights below ~10 but that wasnt prolonged, just a few days.....It will be fine as long as you dont leave it in front of the window in blazing sun he he he ........

It is sitting in a west window at present...it seems to like it fine and it doesn't get too hot there....no leaves on the trees yet, but soon that window will be in shade...but by then I will have it outdoors! Do you think it would be ok with morning sun? I plan to put it on the back deck which is shaded by the house after 12:00 noon.

It will be fine Lori, ..............

Lori:

I've never seen this plant grown as a houseplant. It look really healthy as a houseplant. Not even one dry leaf. You're house must have a lot of humidity?

Actually this plant was started by my friend...it weathered the crossing pretty well, don't you think? I intend to pot it up and put it on the deck for the summer and try to overwinter it inside. It must be one tough plant, it seems quite happy with moist roots... and with our more oblique sun angle it is fine in a west window. Don't know about the humidity here...think it's pretty much the average 40-45% when the heat is on...I'm keeping an eye on it for now, though... I hope I can get it to bloom!

Lori:
Does it grow outside in the ground? I though they were very hardy.

hmmm... maybe I should take another google...but I thought it was borderline in my zone 5b... will give it another look...thanks D1!

Lori:

Wow...I didn't realize you were in 5b. That's pretty amazing!
You're a whole 5 1/2 Zones from me. Well, maybe you're correct...they may not grow outside for you.
