Alligator lizard

Alligator lizard

This is a San Diego Alligator Lizard. It is by my front door. They are not scared of humans and from what I've read can deliver a nasty bite. They are not venomous though. Photo taken a week or so ago.

Panther:

You're correct! They are not friendly.

He or she is still a small lizard...they are pretty common and eat bugs -- so they are good for the garden. It can grow to 2 feet / 61cm long.

I don't think I would want to keep a 2feet lizard in my garden though, amazing how long they can grow.

Panther:

There's a lot of these lizards around...as they are the most common lizard. Overall they don't bother anyone. They just eat bugs. When I water the plants they take off pretty quickly...they don't like the water. Sometimes, I get startled because they move like a snake...and we have many rattle snakes around which are venomous! Rattle snakes are the most common venomous snake in California.
