Lori:
In California depending on the variety...they can cost $129.00 - 600.00 for a 6+ foot tree. Gallon size plants are usually much less than $129.00. WOW!!!

Our winters make overwintering and acclimatization very expensive, as they require monitoring and preservation measures, and heated greenhouses in some cases...so I understand to a point why they are such a seemingly high price...but..it is a tender and vulnerable living thing! I'd feel like I was gambling with it's survival...and there are lots of other plants out there who will survive very well in my garden without all the care and fuss...that's why I bought a Sambucas.

It sounds like a logical choice...considering the cost.
