there are a few different ones that have this colouring - Spritz has one listed on her page i also have another on mine - off the top of my head i think mine is called midnight .... something or the other lol -unfortunately mine has not reapered again this year think i may have lost it. :-(

This looks like the new one I have - G. maculatum 'Espresso'. Take a look at mine and see if you agree. Is it in flower now? Otherwise, I have 'Midnight Reiter'...same colour leaves, not as tall, I think.

Spritz it is in flower now, and getting taller by the day, hoped it would be clumpy.

Definitely 'Espresso', then! I am going to move mine - the maculatum group are better in shade.

oohh thats good i just bought one of thoughs to replace my 'Midnight Reiter' i was hoping i could put it in the woodland bed, and while i was at it just bought 2 others too, a dark pink, with green leaves which is a new vareity called 'Starman' that is a clump forming one only gets approx 15" x15" apprently - but having said that the listing on ebay only gives the variety but no spec, also i invested in a lovely G. pratense 'Black Beauty' - infact yours could also be this one DD2 - have a look at that one - there are some good pic's on ebay. - don't like to disagree with Spritz - as she is usually right. obviously i have'nt got either my espresso or black beauty as yet, and you can't be 100% sure when buying on ebay, but according to the pictures i have 'Espresso' flowers are much lighter than this picture almost pinky and the leaves are more chocolate than purple. 'Black Beauty' looks more like the one you have too me.

Have another look on ebay DD, i just bought an Expresso from Joan on ebay, did you have a look while on there? i really do think that the flowers on this one that you have are much deeper in colour than Expresso - and as you know Joan is usually accurate with her pic's. i really would lay money on yours being 'Black Beauty'.....Sorry Spritz x

Did you look at the photo of my 'Espresso' which is in the 'garden' section on my page? It really does look like this...and G. pratense plants are not nearly in flower yet: several more weeks to wait for them. That's why I am disagreeing with Angie!

lol it is hard for me to say for sure as i don't have either of mine as yet, you could well be right, i just thought this one looked darker in colour than the one i saw pictured that i just bought, i'll have a look at yours now Spritz.

i already am skint...but it don't stop me lol......got my Espresso...but not in flower,,gotta say though Spritz the leaves are not the same colouring as this pic,,,at the moment anyway....keep ya both posted.

Yes, please. I get concerned about wrong labelling, and strange colours on the pics of the plants as well. When the flowers open, they are too often completely different.

with Joan? mine is nice, the picture she has is completely different to this one is'nt it, still Spritz you could be right and the pic on ebay could be wrong who knows.....although the colouring of the pic on ebay does kind of fit to the name if i am honest, the leaves are more chocolately brown and the flowers are more creamy pink...which kind of makes you think of coffee.

Espresso arrives next week, looking forward to a cup..........lol

lol.... no not in flower DD, will post pic's when it is, foliege looks very simular to the other dark one i had last year, 'midnight reiter' - has a compact habit, maybe i will post a pic of the leaves a bit later....and Spritz you are just so easy to wind up lol

lol - good effort! i recon we should saggest to A and P that we can have the option to add faces to our comments, you know like you can on most mobile phones, there is a bright red one with a scowlling expression, or is it angree? lol would be a good idea don't you think?
