This is a male showing some of his red shoulder epaulettes. He & his mate are frequent visitors to the feeders.

Female is streaked brown, shown in next photo. Doesn't seem fair that the males are such stand outs, does it, lol!

Very beautiful...we used to have a lot of these in Phoenix but I can't tell you how long it has been since I have seen one..your picture is beautiful, Grammazoo.

I grew up with these all around, loved living around bunches of cattail. Wonderful to see one again. They can be buggers if you get near a nest though. :-)

They are pretty territorial, Gt. I've been dive bombed while bird watching by the creek when they thought I was a bit too intrusive, lol!
Thanks Skippy! I just love the birds, especially having them around the yard. To me they are an essential part of the garden, just like the plants and insects and other little visitors.
