baby Great Horned Owls, 29 April 2009 - very high up in a cottonwood tree, -- the parent owls build a nest at a local park each year, and usually have 3 owlets, as there are this spring also. However, one owlet has fledged, so it was in another tree, higher up. The branch these 2 are on, is quite near the nest. These haven't ventured off the branch yet.

wanted to add, that we returned to the park today, to get more pics of these owls, but these 2 had fledged today, and were nowhere to be seen.
The one youngster was high up in the same tree as it was yesterday, with an adult nearby. Maybe these 2 were out with the other parent, having flying lessons :)
It will be harder to get pics now that they have fledged, as they are usually always even higher up in the trees then, plus the leaves are all out on the branches now, making it more difficult to even see the owls. So it was lucky we went yesterday and got these images!

You are so lucky to have all this wonderful diverse amount of wildlife.I know we ahve lots in the UK but a lot of them are so hard to get a glimpse of let alone capture the image of.....Another fantastic piece of camera work.

happy you like it, Tina. yes, we do have a lot of wildlife around this area. I just wish I'd started this photography hobby earlier, as we've lived here over 20 years. I always did take photos over the years, but once the digital cameras were available, I really got more into the hobby.

This is wonderful. I got to watch a little family through this one summer almost 10 years ago. Wonderful to have those treasured memories brought back here. Thank you. :-)
