Flower in the garden, but the name escapes me, even though it is common, just like me.

How about, um, Daisy?

Thanks Dee, Milky is referring to the fact that she comes from the port out, starboard home bit of Essex. May be a form of daisy Dee but not the one to which you refer.

Lovely flower Toto,but I can't see where Dee posted a comment.Can you point me to it or do I need new glasses? lol...{only joking}

Sorry Gee. Thanks Tina for pointing out my error to half the world. Don't you think I get enough flack already?
3 May, 2009
Ooooops sorry,I had better crawl back into my shell, sob sob. lol.....and to think I always say nice things about your photo's.....
3 May, 2009
I was too polite to say anything! I get called all sorts of things anyway so wasn't surprised :)
3 May, 2009
Thanks everyone. I'll give you good odds that what you are called is a lot nicer than what I have been called Ge. As for you Tina, please come back out of your shell. The world already new that I was an idiot.

You said it, Toto... But for any mathematicians out there, look at the centre of this flower - all those perfect spiral patterns. Isn't nature incredible?
4 May, 2009
It certainly is Elke. I noticed the spirals when I first published the pic but couldn't think of the correct word to describe them. Are they the shape of an involute?
5 May, 2009
It reminds me of fractals...I am a daisy fan...and have been looking over here in Wales for a Garden Center that carries my favorite Shasta Daisy not found any so far...grrrrrr...only have seen margurites..thanks...toto..for giving us a daisy picture...~Cat

Wow Toto....you are a veritable encyclopedia!! I'm very impressed. LOL
7 May, 2009
I wish it was me Gilli but no. All this is already on GOY. I just looked up. Why won't people just believe me. I haven't got a brain ceel that actually belongs to me. I use those of others and still can't get it right.
7 May, 2009
Oh I think there must be one brain cell that's yours Toto.....but it might be lonely!! He he he
8 May, 2009
Your right of course Gilli. I do have one, it hangs on a very fine thread at the back of the head and it's position is looking very precarious. I think it needs a drink.
8 May, 2009
LOL - however long did it take you to type out THAT lot??
Thanks for the giggle! LOL again!
8 May, 2009
I didn't Spritz. I copied and pasted it.
8 May, 2009
OH NO - not another techie! LOL.
8 May, 2009
Just lazy Spritz.
8 May, 2009
That little thread is starting to fray Toto. :o)
9 May, 2009
I'll get it another pint quick.
9 May, 2009
We still haven't named your plant, Toto! Is it really 'just' a daisy or something more exotic?
9 May, 2009
Chamomille???
10 May, 2009
I'ii post a pic with the leaves. I know it is a common flower but can't remember which.
Not chamomille Gilli. Go to the bottom of the class.
10 May, 2009
I found Shasta Daisy flower seeds todayt..in North Wales at Garden world there...Yay!!!..now I'm gonna sew them and put them on the kitchen window sill so Steve will remember to water them for me! lol...after I have to go if Ieave when I am supposed to I only have 15 more days here..it takes them 14 days to germinate...bummer...well maybe that will be a good enough reason to stay longer!..lol..oh but the daisies....need to take care of them..
10 May, 2009
Sounds as though things are going well. Good luck.
10 May, 2009
Bottom of the class???!!!! sob! My Mum will be cross with me. :o(
Cat.....glad you're having a good time. Those daisy seeds will certainly need TLC from you after they sprout....at least for the next 6 months or so!! LOL.
11 May, 2009
I take it back Gilli. I didn't mean it. I think your very clever. Grovel, grovel, grovel. Bonkers has been telling me about you family who I think are amazing, wonderful, brilliant, great etc.
11 May, 2009
Toto - that one brain cell is certainly working hard.... However, I'm not a good enough mathematician to discuss involutes, but I think this is a good example of a Fibonacci Spiral. Impressive name, eh? (Note the Canadian 'eh?'). http://www.missmaggie.org/mission4_parts/eng/teaching/pdfs/mathinnature.pdf
Patrick did his college thesis on math in nature, and I remember he drew a load of diagrams to demonstrate this.
Sometimes I open GoY just to grin and chuckle over all the conversations here. Thanks for the smiles this morning!
11 May, 2009
I'm afraid I'm miles behind Patrick. Much as I loved maths as a subject , I never went to anything higher than a polytechnic and wouldn't keep up with anything approaching a thesis.
11 May, 2009
Hey Toto....snap!! I went to the Canadian equivalent of a polytechnic....a technical institute.
You're grovelling is noted and taken into consideration......ummmm....OK! You are forgiven. LOL :o)
14 May, 2009
Wow, that was a close shave.
14 May, 2009
Still haven't named the mystery flower Toto. How big is the bloom?
16 May, 2009
About one and a quarter inches across Gilli.
16 May, 2009
Going by Toto's photo of the whole plant, I thought it might be Anthemis cupaniana. Only a guess, though!
16 May, 2009
I'm sure you are right Spritz. I apologise to whoever it was on GOY who posted a pic of hers as I can't remember who it was, but it was the same plant. Thank you all so much for your interest and help.
