Me too NP, he's a clever chap, eh? We've bought a Wisteria for it, a pink one. It's positioned at the base of Saturday morning's project (see other pic).

The barrel is comprised of 20 pieces of 70 x 25mm PAR timber. Cut to 300mm lengths and they are 70mm at the top, tapering to 60mm. There are 20 pieces, 20 into 360 is 18 degrees. Two pieces have to butt together, 18 degrees divided by 2 is 9 degrees. Therefore the degree of angle running down the 300mm lenghth is 9 degrees. To attain 20 pieces of timer running from 70mm to 60mm you'll need to make a tapering jig for the table saw.
(Will Carol Vorderman please step forward....).
To join the pices together, mark pieces 1 to 20 with a pencil line then cut the slot witha biscuit cutter along the endge, pop on some wood glue, slip in a biscuit to hold it all together then supported with a Band Clamp until the glue is dry.
The wood was then finished in Medium Oak stain, followed by a thorough soaking of Linseed Oil, some webbing (from B & Q) and a load of small screws to hold it all together.
I'll upload a piccy of the tapering jig tomorrow, it's too dark to go into the workshop tonight.
Hubby made another one today and it only took 90 minutes from start to finish. I'll upload a piccy of that tomorrow too.
