Ananas comosus - Pineapple (Ananas comosus - Pineapple)

This is my pineapple I grew last year 2008. It was a good tasting fruit.

It always amazes me to see the way they grow - we have a pineapple farm just north of our city and it's a treat to drive by and see these wonders.

Yes, I've seen huge acreage of pineapple plantings in Hawaii. They are pretty amazing!

Sandra:

Yes, pineapple plants are not the easiest plant to grow indoors. I grow my outside only...with that being said -- it's a tricky thing placing them where they won't sunburn. I've seen some in the ground here and they looked very good. Whenever, I've tried to grow a pineapple in the ground the sow bugs will eat all the roots.

My friend started this plant from a pineapple top. My friend gave it to me...and a couple of months later it started developing the pineapple fruit.

Sandra:

That's how they are commercially grown in Hawaii. It will take form 12 months to 24 months to produce fruit. It just depends on the weather conditions.
