This is my favourite photo from my trip to the Botanic Gardens - I just loved this tree. I spent around 3 hours wandering through the Gardens and when I found this gorgeous thing I spent another half hour just walking around admiring it.

Bernieh:
It is a beautiful old tree. Is it a Ficus sycamorus - Sycamore Fig?

Yes Delonix - isn't it magnificent? It was full of fruit too - which you can't really see in the photo. This old beauty obviously thrives in dry conditions.

Yes, it is!
Yes, they love dry conditions...there are many trees here. The largest Ficus sycamorus I've seen is just slightly smaller than this tree posted...and it' s located in Balboa Park. As you know such large trees are difficult to take good photos.

Yes if you get the whole tree in frame, you lose so much of the detail on the trunk - especially with such lovely trees as this one.

Maybe one day this website will allow a larger photo to be uploaded. I know many of my photos look very different once uploaded...because I'm sure the file size decreases once uploaded to GoY.
